Seminary Day Lent Begins

Charter weekly
Apostolic Administrator of Sigüenza-Guadalajara
for Sunday March 20, 2011

Dear Brothers

Every year on the Feast of St. Joseph, celebrated the Day of the Seminar. It invites us to consider the seminary and the seminarians like something out of every diocese, as an institution and a department of the diocese needed for the formation of our priests and of the existence and functioning depend that we can continue to priests well prepared for our service, our communities and parishes and to help other dioceses or communities in need.

prayer, concern, affection and support for our seminarians and prayer, work and interest in vocations is not only matter of a day, but every day, always. But on the Day of St. Joseph, Patron of Seminaries, for having had him as high responsibility in the education of the Eternal High Priest, our concern, our prayers and our support to the seminary must be over.

Given also the precarious situation we find, with only two seminarians in the seminary and five in the Less, our call and invitation to all diocesan is urgent.

face of diverse opinions and assessments of the priest in the current public opinion in our society, some of them negative and even hostile, we affirm in the campaign for the seminar this year, Pope Benedict XVI's words that the priest is God's gift to the world.

Indeed, because of its origin, for his performance as an end, the priest is a gift, a grace gift of God to serve believers and their communities, as well as nonbelievers, and society and the world. At the root of the priest is the call, the vocation. No one can be a priest if it is called, if not a vocation, if not trained for this ministry does not receive the priesthood and mission for the Sacrament of Holy Orders.

In fiscal of his ministry, the priest is involved with his whole person to bring the action of God, the divine life and grace to others through the word of God, the sacraments and other sacred actions, prayer by people and the people, by the sick and poor service by the office of pastor to raise, guide, feed, heal, defend to give his life for others.

Even in actions that might seem a less sacred, as the task of education, social development and care of the artistic heritage of "doing neighborhood" or town in scattered and isolated populations ... the task of the priest must do with the plan of God for world that we are all one family. This is God's gift to the world.

ask the Lord to send laborers into his inheritance, our seminary seminarians and candidates for the novitiate of the Institutes of Consecrated Life. Let us be faithful collaborators of the Lord's ministers. Assume responsibility for our part in the Church to each, by virtue of ordination, by the consecration in the religious life or by baptism. Pray for the seminarians to form well, persevere and be holy priests.

May God reward us and bless us with many holy priests. What a wonderful gift for our new D. Bishop Atilano, if the seminar again have more seminarians!

greet you and bless,

† José Sánchez González
